Call for Participation
30th Annual Conference October 6-7, 2011, Raleigh North Carolina
The Southern Association for Public Opinion Research (SAPOR) will hold its 30th annual conference October 6-7, 2011 at the Hilton North Raleigh/Midtown in Raleigh, North Carolina.
On the Wednesday afternoon prior to the conference, October 5, we will be offering a short course titled “Introduction to Usability Testing for Survey Research”,
taught by Emily McFarlane Geisen, of RTI, and Caroline Jarrett, of Effortmark Ltd.
This year’s conference theme is, “Public Opinion and Survey Research in Changing Political, Societal, and Economic Times”. We encourage presentation of public opinion or survey data that illustrate how our society’s outlook has changed in recent years given the political, social and economic state of our country and that of the world. This year’s theme is intended to promote research-based discussions regarding recent shifting public opinion, to help identify hindrances in conducting credible research, and to elicit sharing of knowledge and lessons-learned about how we overcome those obstacles. Proposals on any topic related to public opinion research, survey research, or methodology will be considered.
We are excited to announce that our keynote speaker for this year’s conference will be Dr. Michael Link of The Nielsen Company.
The conference program will also feature an invited presentation by Dr. Peter Marsden of Harvard University.
We encourage participation from all sectors engaged in gathering data including academia, government, private sector, and non-profit. Graduate student participation is highly encouraged and is rewarded with the James W. Prothro Student Paper Competition, which recognizes outstanding student-authored research.
Proposal Submission Process
Proposals for the conference should be submitted electronically through the SAPOR website. Abstracts for papers and posters should be no more than 300 words and should be submitted by July 30, 2011 for full consideration. Proposal submissions should have the name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address of the principal author.
